Cadillac Margarita

Another Cinco de Mayo has come and gone, but that doesn’t mean the margaritas should stop flowing! This Cadillac Margarita is a top shelf favorite, made with smooth Casamigos tequila, Gran Gala (a rich, brandy-based orange liquor) and a quick Turbinado Sweet & Sour mix.

Pre-made margarita mixes are convenient, but they’re usually loaded with sugar and that’s a guaranteed headache over here! We’re making our own sweet & sour mix with a few lemons, limes and sugar…basically a citrusy simple syrup.

Classic simple syrup is a 1:1 ratio of water and sugar. We’re throwing that ratio way off in favor of a lower sugar mix that packs more flavor thanks to turbinado sugar. This raw, unprocessed sugar makes a great simple syrup. Unlike processed, white sugar, these course granules add a rich color and deeper flavor.

For the sweet & sour mix, dissolve 1 cup of turbinado sugar in 4 cups of water over medium-low heat. You’re not looking for a boil here, so as soon as the sugar is dissolved, you can take it off of the heat. Squeeze in the lemon and lime juice and let it cool. Strain the juice into a pitcher or jug. You can keep it stored in the refrigerator for months!

This mix is perfect for margaritas, but that’s not the only way to get your sip on! Add a splash to your favorite spirits, sweeten up your iced tea or serve it over ice with a splash more water for a refreshing lemon-limeade.

While there are a lot of other uses for this mix…we came to make margaritas! Grab the full recipe below and get busy sipping!
