Cider House Yules
A good holiday cocktail can make even the most frigid winter nights feel a little bit warmer. This wintery drink does the trick with belly warming bourbon and the earthy spices found in crisp apple cider!
Bourbon is a great cold weather spirit that warms you from the inside out. A good bourbon should be enjoyed in its simplest form; straight up in a rocks glass or with couple ice cubes and even a tiny splash of water. While I can appreciate it in its purest forms, a good bourbon cocktail really does it for me!
For this wintery cocktail, you’ll need your favorite bourbon, apple cider, some pomegranate seeds (or juice) and aromatic bitters. Not to be confused with apple juice, apple cider is a darker, cloudier and in my opinion, more flavorful concoction with tasty notes of cinnamon and spice. This time of year, you can find it at most grocery stores, produce stands or even more locally at your favorite farmer’s market.
Start by muddling a heaping tablespoon of pomegranate seeds in a cocktail shaker. As you muddle, all those juicy juices will burst out of the seeds, adding a subtle tartness that’s going to balance out the sweetness of the cider. Then you can add some ice, your bourbon, cider and about 3-4 dashes of bitters.
Give it a good shake, then pour the concoction into an iced rocks glass or a chilled martini glass. If you’re feeling fancy, garnish your glass with some apple slices, more pomegranate seeds or a even a cinnamon stick and get to sippin’!
Thanks for Chewsing!
