The Salty Saint
The New Orleans Saints are our team and I have to admit, we’re still pretty salty about that missed call in the final minutes of the NFC Championship game that essentially kept this from being a black & gold superbowl.

We channeled the saltiness we feel about the loss into this cocktail we’re calling The Salty Saint. Inspired by the classic Salty Dog cocktail, this salted rim gin (or vodka) drink is a slightly sweeter version, full of fresh squeezed Cara Cara orange juice.
If you’ve never had a Cara Cara, keep an eye out! Inside their inconspicuous rind, you’ll find an eye-catching, ruby red flesh that’s full of perfectly sweet juice.
These guys don’t pack as much of an acidic punch as other orange varieties. And unlike the bitter grapefruit juice typically used in a Salty Dog, the juice from the Cara Cara is much more sweet than bitter (unlike our football feelings). It’s the best of both worlds with it’s vibrant color and sweet juicy juice!
To make The Salty Saint, juice two Cara Cara oranges and set the juice aside (you should get about 3.5 to 4 ounces of juice). Run a lime wedge around the rim of a rocks glass and swirl the top of the glass around in some flaky sea salt. Fill your glass with ice (preferably crushed…like our dreams of going to the superbowl…) and pour in 1.5 ounces of your favorite gin (or vodka) and the Cara Cara juice. Give it a stir and a squeeze of lime. Garnish the glass with some juicy fruit slices and drink up!
This juicy gin cocktail will be the perfect mouth-puckering cocktail (a.k.a. haterade) to sip on while we’re feeling salty about this Superbowl Sunday. Anyone else plan on tuning into Animal Planet’s Puppy Bowl instead??? #puppybowl2019
