Tipsy Cherry Limeade

Cherry limeade is pretty high up on the ‘nostalgic’ list for me. The only place I’ve ever really ordered one is at the old Sonic Drive-In, but that sweet cherry limeade still makes me think of a classic soda shop. Maybe it’s the car-hops scooting around on skates or maybe it’s the fact that nearly 20 years have rolled by since the last time I actually had one. Whatever it may be, the nostalgia is strong with this one.

We’re gonna make a big-girl drink out of this old favorite by throwing in some light rum. A hefty splash of tart cherry juice adds a tangy sweetness. (Cheribundi makes a super tasty, lighter version of its tart cherry juice, if you’re watching calories and sugar). Of course, no Cherry Limeade would be complete without a hefty squeeze of lime and a top off with lemon-lime soda to balance it all out.

Honestly, I still love this one without the booze. The older I get, the harder it is for me to bounce back from a night of drinking (where my 30-somethings at??), so mocktails have been making me a happy, non-hungover camper lately!

If you’re not a drinker, try a glass of ice with a little cherry juice and a squeeze of lime. SO. SO. GOOD.

If you are a drinker, go ahead and fill a highball glass with ice. Add 1.5 oz. of light rum (or the clear spirit of choice), 2.5 oz. of tart cherry juice and the juice from 1/4 of a lime. Top it off with lemon-lime soda and give the drink a good stir with a cocktail spoon. For a little more pizazz, garnish the glass with some cherries & a wedge of lime. Cheers!
