Elderflower Honey Mule

The Moscow Mule has been around for quite some time (at least back to the 1940's!), but it seems like the Mule has reached celebrity status over the last few years. The vodka, ginger beer & lime cocktail is typically served in an eye catching, copper mug. This Elderflower Mule is a twist on the classic, with the addition of Elderflower liquor and a honey mint simple syrup.

Making your own simple syrup is a really fast and, dare I say...simple way to add some sweetness to your favorite cocktails. In the last post, we made an easy Honey Mint Simple Syrup and we're putting it to good use here! You can get cozy and read all about how it's made in this post!

Another ingredient that makes this a must-try mule is the Elderflower liqueur. You've probably seen the widely popular St. Germain Elderflower Liqueur, but we found a great deal on this Thatcher's Elderflower Liqueur at our favorite local liquor store and decided to give it a whirl! The fragrant liqueur gets it's light and floral notes from elderflower blossoms.

It's easy to spot a Moscow Mule drinker in the room! The eye-catching, signature copper mugs have a tendency to stand out in a crowd. While I love the look of these guys, our set isn't solid copper. A lot of the mugs you see are actually just stainless steel with a shiny copper coating on the outside, which I happen to prefer. Since stainless steel is non-reactive, you won't have to worry about your drink tasting like an alcoholic penny!

Once your simple syrup is ready, you can whip up your cocktail! With most cocktails, I like to fill the cup to the tip-top with crushed iced, so that the drink stays cold until the last sip. Pour in your favorite vodka, elderflower liqueur and honey syrup into the cup. Squeeze in the juice from 1/4 lime and drop that wedge in! Top it off with ginger beer and give it a good stir with a cocktail spoon.  All that's left now is to start drinking!
