Hot Saltines

Our quarantine snacking has quickly gone from conservative to constant the last couple weeks. If you’re like us and you’ve eaten all your good quarantine snacks, it may be time to dig a little deeper in the pantry. Odds are, you have a rogue sleeve of Saltines in there that you can transform from classic cracker to an upgraded spicy snack in no time.

Hot Saltines

This quick snack is inspired by Alton Brown’s Pantry Raid. His recipes calls for combining 1 sleeve of Saltine crackers with 1 tsp. dry mustard powder, 1 tbsp. hot sauce and 2 tbsp. melted butter before baking at 350°F for 10 minutes. The recipe is super simple and seems pretty customizable depending on your taste. We are in the middle of a global pandemic here, so don’t feel the need to mask up and make a trip to the store for one ingredient.

Hot Saltines

We always have Cholula on hand but any hot sauce will do! Don’t have saltines? Try Ritz (just drop the heat to 300°F instead). We were out of mustard powder, so we went with garlic powder instead. All this versatility has us thinking…would a crawfish boil flavor work? Everything bagel seasoning?? A hint of cheesiness from nutritional yeast???

Hot Saltines

This recipe is all about keeping it simple and using what you have on hand. Remember, it’s ok if we’re not all creating gourmet meals three times a day…and it’s definitely ok to be eating some of your quarantine feelings! For now, we’re just gonna keep on snacking.
